Dr. Greg Evans

Dr. Evans was born and raised on a mixed farm in the Calgary area. He graduated from WCVM in 2001, and then completed a one-year internship at San Luis Rey Equine Hospital in Bonsall, California. It was during his internship that he developed a special interest in equine neurologic disease, specifically Wobblers syndrome and cervical facet joint arthrosis.
In addition to this interest in neurologic cases, Dr. Evans enjoys performance horse lameness, equine dentistry, and equine herd health management. He is certified in both veterinary acupuncture and veterinary spinal manipulation therapy and feels that these treatments augment his veterinary treatments for performance horse issues.
When not working, Dr. Evans and his family enjoy acreage life, horseback riding, golf, and camping in the summer. In the winter months, downhill skiing and travelling are their recreational activities of choice.
Dr. Shawn Mattson

Dr. Mattson graduated from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in 1997. Following an internship at Young Crawford Veterinary Clinic and a 3 year residency in large animal surgery at the Ontario Veterinary College, he completed a Doctor of Veterinary Science degree and attained board certification with the American College of Veterinary Surgeons. Dr. Mattson was then hired as an assistant professor in Large Animal Surgery until coming to Moore Equine in 2005. Dr. Mattson became a partner of Moore Equine in 2011. Dr. Mattson attained board certification with the American College of Veterinary Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation in 2018.
Dr. Mattson has published scientific articles in the American Journal of Veterinary Research and Veterinary Surgery. Dr. Mattson specializes in lameness and surgery and is particularly interested in arthroscopy, orthopedics and lameness diagnosis. Dr. Mattson is an FEI permitted treating veterinarian. Dr. Mattson is a past member of the Practice Review Board and the Complaints Review Committee of the Alberta Veterinary Medical Association. He is also a past member of the Equine Health Research Fund Advisory Committee of the Western College of Veterinary Medicine, member of the editorial review board of the journal Veterinary Surgery, and is a member of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons Examination Committee.
Dr. Chris Berezowski

Dr. Berezowski is a Board certified specialist in Equine Reproduction (Theriogenology) and in Equine Practice. His practice area is a mix of reproduction and performance horse medicine.
Chris graduated from the WCVM in 2002. He then completed a one year internship at Alamo Pintado Equine Medical Center in Los Olivos, California. In 2005, Dr. Berezowski completed a theriogenology residency at Texas A&M University and became a Diplomate of the American College of Theriogenologists that same year. In 2008, he also became board certified in equine practice.
Dr. Berezowski has published articles and has collaborative research projects in the following areas; ovulation induction, semen cryopreservation, stallion subfertility, West Nile Virus and pregnancy, spermatozoal motility/morphology, Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) and nuclear transfer (cloning). While at Texas A&M, he was part of the research team that was responsible for the birth of the first two cloned equines in North America.
Dr. Berezowski also manages the day to day activity of the practice as CEO. In 2019, Chris received an MBA from the University of Calgary.
Dr. Erin Thompson

Dr. Thompson is a Diplomate in the American College of Veterinary Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation. She graduated with distinction as a member of the first graduating class from the University of Calgary’s Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and returned to complete a Master of Science degree concurrent with her Sports Medicine residency. Born and raised in the Calgary area, she has been involved with horses her entire life.
Dr. Thompson has competed in a variety of equine disciplines ranging from hunter trials and show jumping, to team cattle penning, to her current focus on working cow horse. Dr. Thompson was a Doctor of Chiropractic for 7 years, primarily treating high-level human athletes such as NFL players and Olympic competitors. This experience has given her a unique set of skills that she brings to her equine work. Dr. Thompson has advanced training and a keen interest in lameness, “lack of performance” issues, back pain, respiratory conditions, comprehensive equine rehabilitation programs, and fitness testing. In addition, she continues to enjoy general equine practice and working with horses of all disciplines.
Dr. Jenn Fowlie

Dr. Fowlie graduated from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatoon in 2007. The following year she completed an Internship at Moore Equine and then spent 3 years at Michigan State University as a Resident in Equine Surgery. During this time she was trained by world renowned surgeons and completed a Masters of Science, with research focusing on meniscal tears in the equine stifle. She worked for Caledon Equine Hospital in Ontario in the fall of 2011, prior to completing her surgery board examination in January 2012. She was the sole surgeon at West Wind Veterinary Hospital in Edmonton from 2012-2015, where she primarily did lameness, surgery and referral cases.
Dr. Fowlie has published 3 research articles on the equine meniscus and 1 on a novel arthroscopic approach to coffin joint in peer reviewed journals (Equine Veterinary Journal and Veterinary Surgery). She has also authored chapters on the equine stifle and meniscal/cruciate injuries in the textbooks Equine Surgery and Current Therapy in Equine Medicine.
Dr. Fowlie was raised in Calgary, and grew up with quarter horses used for pleasure riding and ranch work.
Dr. Jordan Cook

Dr. Jordan Cook is a 2010 graduate from the Ontario Veterinary College at the University of Guelph. She completed her internship here at Moore Equine Veterinary Centre before returning to Ontario to work at McKee-Pownall Equine Services. Unable to resist the draw of the west, she returned to Moore Equine in May 2015. Dr. Cook has special interests in lameness, dentistry, and racetrack medicine, especially with the opening of Century Downs Racetrack in Calgary. She is also certified in Veterinary Chiropractic care.

Dr. Lockhart graduated from The University of Calgary Veterinary Medicine program with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 2014. She has also received a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology from the University of Calgary. She completed her equine internship at Moore Equine in June of 2015. Prior to vet school, Shannon was an avid rider and trainer in the Alberta Eventing and Hunter/Jumper circuits. She has had many of her horses and students go on to international level competition. Her equine medicine interests include dentistry, lameness and preventative care. When not working at the clinic, she enjoys spending her spare time with her little dog and the rest of her family.
Dr. Katherine McDonald

Dr. McDonald grew up just outside of Calgary. She completed her undergraduate degree and her DVM at the University of Calgary. She traveled to Colorado for an internship at Littleton Equine Medical Center, where she was exposed to all facets of veterinary medicine, including lameness and internal medicine. She is thrilled to be back home in Calgary. She has been showjumping since she was eight years old and spends as much time as possible riding.
Dr. Matt Malyk

Dr. Malyk was raised on a farm Northwest of Airdrie, Alberta. He attended the Western College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan where he completed his D.V.M. Upon graduation, he then travelled to California where he completed an equine internship at Pioneer Equine Hospital in Oakdale, California. Here he was able to advance his skills and knowledge in all aspects of equine medicine, especially in his clinical interests of lameness and dentistry. Dr. Malyk then practiced general equine medicine for a year in Southern Alberta before joining Moore Equine.
Dr. Erin Clarke

Dr. Clarke was raised on a ranch in southeast Saskatchewan. She graduated from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatoon. After graduation she headed south to complete a one year internship at Oakridge Equine Hospital, a busy primarily western performance and racehorse practice in central Oklahoma. This allowed her to advance her skills in all areas of equine practice particularly her interests in lameness, sports medicine and emergency medicine. In July of 2017 she returned to Canada and joined the Moore Equine team. Dr. Clarke has been competing on family raised horses since she was six and particularly enjoys both barrel racing and the opportunity to go cutting.
Dr. Ashley Lamond

Dr. Ashley Lamond was born and raised in Hamilton, Ontario. She completed an undergraduate degree in health sciences at McMaster University before attending veterinary school at the Ontario Veterinary College at the University of Guelph. After graduating veterinary school in June 2017, she completed a year-long internship at Moore Equine, where she grew into the horse doctor she is today. After her internship, Dr. Lamond spent a year working with both riding horses and Standardbred racehorses in London, Ontario at an equine ambulatory practice. It wasn’t long, however, before she was drawn back to the west, and in August 2019 she returned to Moore Equine as an associate veterinarian. Dr. Lamond enjoys all aspects of equine practice, from internal medicine to diagnostic imaging to emergency, critical care and everything in between. She also enjoys working with llamas and alpacas when the opportunity arises! In her spare time, Dr. Lamond enjoys knitting, discovering new music, hiking and spending time with her terrier cross Harlowe. Dr. Lamond is so excited to be back at Moore Equine and is looking forward to meeting everyone and their horses!
Dr. Gillian Haanen

Dr. Gillian Haanen is from the Netherlands and graduated from Utrecht University. Following graduation, she worked as an intern at Sportpaardenkliniek Wolvega in the Netherlands, Moore Equine in Canada, and Purdue University in the United States. She developed a love for all things internal medicine and started a Large Animal Internal Medicine Residency at Purdue University in 2016. Besides horses, she has worked with cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, and camelids, which she enjoyed very much! Dr. Haanen completed her residency training in 2019.
We are happy to announce that she has returned to Moore Equine with a special focus on internal medicine and hospitalized patients. Her interests within the field of internal medicine are neonatology, gastrointestinal, respiratory, and infectious diseases.
In her free time she enjoys the Rocky Mountains, from hiking in the spring time to snowboarding during the winter months.
Dr. Rachael Warren

Dr. Rachael Warren was born and raised in Ontario and has always been passionate about working with horses, spending much of her childhood riding at her local equestrian centre. After completing a Bachelor of Bio-Medical Science degree at the University of Guelph, Dr. Warren travelled to Edinburgh, Scotland to attain her veterinary degree from the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies. Following graduation Dr. Warren accepted an equine internship in Victoria, Australia, where she established a well-rounded foundation in all aspects of equine practice. With a special interest in reproductive medicine, Dr. Warren spent the next 3 years in both the United Kingdom and Australia developing skills in artificial breeding, embryo transfer, management of pregnant mares and neonatal medicine.
Dr. Jenna Lambert

Dr. Lambert graduated from the University of Calgary, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in 2018. Following this, she completed a one-year internship at Moore Equine, followed by a three-year residency in large animal surgery at the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University in Grafton, Massachusetts. During this time, she received training in emergency surgery, soft tissue procedures and orthopedics, with advanced training in sports medicine, lameness diagnosis and diagnostic imaging.
Dr. Lambert has published scientific articles in the Journal of Veterinary and Comparative Orthopaedics and Traumatology and the Journal of Veterinary Internal Medicine. She enjoys all aspects of equine surgery, but holds a special interest in equine fracture repair and emergency abdominal surgery.
Dr. Lambert was born and raised in Calgary, AB. She continues to enjoy riding in the mountains, spending time with her dogs and exploring the outdoors at every opportunity.
Dr. Lauren Friedl

Dr. Friedl spent her early years in Ontario, where she developed a strong interest in dressage and equine veterinary medicine. Her love for adventure took her to Melbourne, Australia for veterinary school. After graduating she headed to Cochrane, Alberta where she completed an internship at Burwash Equine Veterinary Services. Her travel bug took her to Washington however, she quickly realized Alberta stole her heart and returning was inevitable!
Dr. Friedl enjoys all aspects of equine medicine. She has special interests in nutrition and functional fitness. She plans to become certified in saddle fitting in the near future. When she is not working, you can find her cooking something intricate, working out at a CrossFit gym or summiting mountains.
Dr. Liz Hanly

Dr. Liz Hanly is from Calgary, Alberta, and has a lifelong affinity for horses, having grown up riding and working with them. She obtained her degree from the University College Dublin in 2021 and then completed her internship at Moore Equine in 2022. During her time in Ireland, she expanded her equestrian abilities by learning to play polo cross through the University equestrian club.
Dr. Hanly has a broad range of interests within ambulatory equine medicine and is dedicated to fully immersing herself in all aspects of this field. Dr. Hanly enjoys spending her leisure time with her new puppy, engaging in outdoor activities such as running, hiking, and skiing in the picturesque mountains of her hometown.
Dr. Kimberly Stewart

Dr. Kimberly Stewart is a born and raised Calgarian who has grown up loving horses as she has worked with and rode since she was a little girl. She obtained her undergraduate degree in Zoology from the University of Calgary in 2017 and then went on to complete her DVM from the University of Calgary in 2021. She then went on to pursue an internship at Moore Equine in 2022. After her internship she worked as an associate in a mixed animal practice for two years before equine medicine called her home. Dr. Stewart has a broad range of interests within ambulatory equine medicine and is dedicated to ensuring gold standard level of care for your equine athletes. Dr. Stewart enjoys spending her leisure time with her husband, family and friends and also has an active role as a volunteer on the Calgary Stampede Chuckwagon Committee as a member of their track safety team. She also enjoys riding horses and exploring new things to do in her city.
Dr. Dennis Rach

The legendary Dr. Rach has been a partner in Moore Equine Veterinary Centre, then called Moore & Sturm, since 1972. As a certified equine chiropractor and certified equine acupuncturist, and member of both the American Association of Veterinary Chiropractors and International Veterinary Acupuncture Society, Dr. Rach offers a range of approaches for the treatment of lameness in the performance horse.
Dr. Rach is also an internationally renowned authority on Equine dentistry, who trains veterinarians in clinics all over the world. A member of the American Veterinary Dental Association, Dr. Rach has been instrumental in the development of modern equine dental techniques and equipment. He is the inventor of the Power Float, a complete instrument used to float horse’s teeth and correct dental malocclusions, that has brought in a new era of gentle dentistry for horses and is used by thousands of clinicians in North America, Europe and Australia.
Dr. Rach has done extensive research in the establishment of new treatment modalities in equine dentistry and has also published papers on Eclampsia in the mare, Adenovirus infection in foals, and the treatment of diastema in horses. His career spans over three decades, from the earliest bovine embryo transfers to today’s breakthrough technologies. A graduate of WCVM, Dr. Rach’s extensive experience is complementary with the rest of the service offered at Moore Equine Veterinary Centre.
Dr. Mike Scott

Dr. Scott is a double-Boarded Specialist, with certifications in Surgery and in Sports Medicine. He has been practicing medicine at Moore Equine since 1992.
Dr. Scott was the President of the Western Canadian Association of Equine Practitioners for the 2004-2005 year. He has published scientific articles on research projects such as; the development of intra-osseous regional perfusion techniques for treatment of orthopedic infections, congenital Hypothyroidism and Dysmaturity of Foals, Microvascular Free Tissue Transfer Techniques for Wound Repair, Measuring incidence and Prognosis for Osteochondrosis in Draft Horse Breeds.
Dr. Scott graduated from WCVM in 1993. He then completed a one year internship in large animal medicine and surgery at the Ontario Veterinary College at Guelph. In 1997, Dr. Scott completed a three year residency in large animal surgery at WCVM, and attained a Master Veterinary Science degree. Two years later, he became a board certified large animal surgeon. Dr. Scott’s primary areas of interest are orthopedics, arthroscopy, diagnostic imaging, lameness diagnosis, and sports medicine. Dr. Scott has been instrumental in the implementation of Nuclear Scintigraphy at Moore Equine Veterinary Centre.
Dr. Renaud Léguillette

Dr. Léguillette graduated from the ENVA (Ecole Nationale Vétérinaire d’Alfort) in Paris, France, in 1994 and obtained a bronze medal for his DMV thesis. He then completed a one-year internship followed by a three-year residency in equine internal medicine at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FMV) of the Université de Montréal. He obtained the status of diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) in 2000.
He was hired at the FMV of the Université de Montréal as a clinician and lecturer in equine internal medicine from 1998 to 2001. Dr. Léguillette was also in charge of the performance testing for the diagnosis of poor performance in equine sports medicine at the FMV of the Université de Montréal in 2000 and 2001. He did several research projects on respiratory diseases in horses at the same time and obtained a M.Sc. degree in 2001.
Dr. Ashley Whitehead

Following a Bachelor of Science program at the University of Guelph, Dr. Whitehead completed her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree at the Ontario Veterinary College in 2005. She then moved to Wisconsin where she completed an equine internship at the Wisconsin Equine Clinic & Hospital. In 2006, Dr. Whitehead returned to Guelph to start a combined clinical residency and graduate degree program in large animal internal medicine that she completed in 2010. Dr. Whitehead has been on faculty at the University of Calgary, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine since 2010 and teaches across the curriculum in a wide variety of courses including Equine Medicine & Surgery, Clinical Skills, Clinical Presentations and Professional Skills. Dr. Whitehead obtained the status of Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (DACVIM) in 2012.
Some of Dr. Whitehead’s veterinary clinical interests include equine health management, equine infectious diseases, neonatal foal intensive care and camelid (llamas and alpacas) medicine. Dr. Whitehead is also trained in veterinary acupuncture and practices on wide range of species in addition to horses.
Dr. Whitehead has published scientific articles on her research in vaccine development for Rhodococcus equi in foals, equine placental characteristics and foaling rates and risk factors for abortion in mares with colic.
Dr. Tovah Caldwell

Dr. Caldwell graduated from the Atlantic Veterinary College in 2009. She completed an internship at Littleton Equine Medical Centre in Colorado and has spent the last 14 years in private practice. Dr. Caldwell enjoys all aspects of equine medicine but has a special interest in sport horse medicine, particularly lameness, performance issues and understanding how spinal (back/neck) pain impacts behaviour and performance. She is certified in both chiropractic and acupuncture which she uses to compliment her treatment plans. Dr. Caldwell recently joined the faculty at UCVM where she splits her time between teaching veterinary students and practicing with the Moore Equine team. In her free time she loves to travel, spends many of her weekends hiking and exploring new areas, is an avid yoga and meditation student, and enjoys spending time with her family and friends.
